Angels–Thank God for the Good Ones
But to which of the angels has He ever said: “Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”? Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1:13-14 NKJV)
The Creation about which we Know Very Little
There are cherubim and seraphim. There are named angels, Michael and Gabriel. There are fallen angels. There is an angel called the Devil (who has angels) and there is the Angel of the Lord Who in most cases appears to be the Lord Himself. He appears as an angel in the Old Testament before He is born as a man in the new.
Then there are guardian angels. We read that the angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them (Psalm 34:7 NKJV). In addition, angels protect children. Again, we read, “Take heed that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that in heaven their angels always see the face of My Father who is in heaven (Matthew 18:10 NKJV).”
Angels are all Around Us
Satan appeared to Eve as a Serpent in the Garden of Eden. He had already sinned before he caused Eve to believe His lie that she could be as God, knowing good and evil. Angels appeared to Abraham before Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed. The Angel of the Lord appeared to Hagar in Genesis 16 and to Abraham in Genesis 22. Jacob met angels on his trip back to the promised land.
We who are saved are wrestling against wicked spirits according to the Apostle Paul. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12 NKJV).
Heaven must be closer than we think. It was for Elijah’s servant at Dotham. The Syrians had surrounded the city and Elijah’s servant was scared. But Elijah said, “LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see.” Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha (2 Kings 6:17 NKJV).”
Christians are Indeed Blessed
The moment we are saved, we are sealed with the Holy Spirit. He abides within and teaches and guides us. But we are also ministered to by angels. They sometimes appear unexpectedly as humans doing the work of the Lord, but their work seems to be the protection of believers. They are around us doing a work that we often don’t see but they are ministering to us nevertheless.
Thank the Lord there is a world that is often unseen but is there even so. Satan uses his angels to attack us and cause doubts and to keep us from being the witness to the goodness of God that we ought to be. But the Lord has angels that guard and protect us. I believe that the angels of the Lord are more powerful than the angels of Satan just as the Lord Jesus is more powerful than Satan.
Surely we can say, “If God is for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31 NKJV).” Let us be encouraged by the fact that we are not only saved from the penalty that we deserve because of our sin, but we are saved or preserved from the crafty deceitfulness of the Evil One and his angels.
Let’s give God thanks for our salvation, our Savior, and for the ministry of angels today,
