The Greatest Gift, the Greatest Love

In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation (sacrifice)  for our sins. (1 John 4:10)

What The World Needs Now Is Love–

What the world needs now
Is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now
Is love, sweet love
No, not just for some, but for everyone.

I remember years ago hearing this song sung by Petula Clark.  I liked it then and I like it now.  The song no doubt deals with the love that we show one another.  But God has shown that love to us.  It is a love of which mankind seems to be incapable.

The world has been offered a great sacrificial love by God Himself.  That love was manifested in the Lord Jesus.  He was rejected by the many and accepted by the few.  It seems to still be that way.  But the greatest gift that anyone could offer this world has been offered in the gift of the Lord Jesus.  We could well ask the question, do we appreciate the fact that God gave us His Son and through Him He is offering us eternal life?  Yes, what the world needs now is love sweet love.

Don’t you just love it when someone that you love says, “I love you!”  Well that is what God is saying to you in the giving of His Son.  We are vividly reminded of that love during the holiday season.  Don’t let the hustle and bustle of the season drown out the real message of the birth of the Lord.
